Beretta 92 is a series of pistols designed and manufactured by an Italian company called Beretta. The design for these hand guns as completed in 1972. Many versions of the gun are still manufactured today. Even though there were only a limited number of the original gun made in the 1970′s, the basic design is now reproduced in four different types and three calibers.
The Beretta open slide system makes it easy to load and is designed to clear any obstructions. The guns were very popularly used in the US military starting with the use of model 92SB in the United States Air Force. The gun was first called by a different name: 92S-1. After the weapon underwent a series of safety precautions, and a few modifications, the name was changed to 92SB. This gun is extremely rare in civilian usage today, but was in common use in the Air Force in the time it was released.
Beretta then further modified the gun to make model 92F. The F represented that the gun was introduced to the United States government Federal tests. The new model had a modified trigger guard to help the shooter to use finger support when aiming. The gun had other modifications to increase its interchangeability. This was to help with ease of use in larger government projects and agencies. The gun represented some of the most cutting edge designs in hand gun weaponry.
Apart from its clean design, and quality, the Beretta was known for its fabulous performance which is why the US government accepted its use in the army. Although not many of the originals are in wide usage today, variations continue to be made in modern times. But with high tech weaponry reaching its height in today’s modern world, the hand gun is not as used in warfare as it used to be. Instead it tends to sit at home in the gun safe.
